Australia’s Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, is set to remain in office after his Labor party secured victory in the federal election. The Labor Party’s win marks a significant moment in Australian politics, with Albanese confirming that he would continue as prime minister.

In a surprising turn of events, Opposition leader Peter Dutton lost his seat in Dickson, Brisbane, to Labor’s candidate Ali France. Dutton acknowledged his defeat, calling Albanese to offer his congratulations. In his statement, Dutton admitted that the Liberal Party did not perform well in the election campaign and did not have the night they had hoped for.

If Labor secures a majority in Parliament, Albanese will continue as prime minister and will select a new group of ministers from the Labor members who have been elected. He has also expressed plans to travel to Washington soon for discussions with former President Donald Trump if he remains in power.

However, it is also possible that Labor may win a minority government, as suggested by pre-election polls. Albanese has made it clear that he will not form a coalition with the Greens party or independent politicians. Nevertheless, he may seek agreements with cross-benchers, who are not aligned with the main parties, to ensure "confidence and supply" and maintain the stability of his government.
