Spanish golfer Eugenio Chacarra demonstrated his skill with a brilliant 8-under 62 in the third round of the Link Hong Kong Open, rekindling his hopes of securing a spot in the LIV Golf League. The 24-year-old, who only narrowly made the weekend cut, rebounded after a shaky start with a bogey on the first hole. He strung together three consecutive birdies early in the round and added another on the 8th. A late surge saw him collect four birdies between holes 12 and 17, capping a stellar performance.
Despite his impressive score, Chacarra believed he could have gone even lower, citing several near-misses with putts. His strong round left him at 10-under for the tournament, seven shots behind leader Patrick Reed, who recorded an incredible 59.
Chacarra has faced challenges this season, including a painful hip injury that hampered his play early on. However, with a handful of solid performances under his belt, including a T10 in Singapore and T12 in Andalucia, he is optimistic about his form improving. The former Oklahoma State star, who previously won on The International Series with a record-breaking playoff victory, sees potential in the remaining tournaments to bolster his ranking and improve his chances of staying in the LIV Golf League.
Looking ahead, Chacarra is set to compete in the International Series Qatar and the PIF Saudi International, pivotal events in determining player rankings. He is also open to exploring opportunities on the Asian Tour and The International Series if he doesn't secure his LIV spot for 2025.
Reflecting on his journey, Chacarra acknowledged the difficulties of competing against the world's best while injured but expressed gratitude for being healthy again. Confident and determined, the young Spaniard remains focused on refining his game and reclaiming his place among the sport’s elite.
