Ongoing Escalation After Pahalgam Attack
Following India’s airstrikes on alleged terrorist bases in Pakistan after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, the conflict between India and Pakistan has entered its most dangerous phase in decades.
Pakistan Retaliates with Major Strike
On Saturday, Pakistan launched its own military operation—Operation Bunyanun Marsoos—targeting Indian military sites, including a missile storage facility in northern India, and bases in Punjab and Kashmir. Five Indian civilians were reportedly killed in the Jammu region. Explosions were also heard in Srinagar and Jammu.
India Foils Drone Waves, Vows Retaliation
The Indian Army reported ongoing Pakistani drone activity and accused Islamabad of “blatant escalation.” Armed drones were spotted and destroyed over Amritsar. India reaffirmed its resolve to thwart “enemy designs.”
Missile Strikes and Air Base Attacks
Pakistan’s military claimed it hit key Indian targets like the Beas BrahMos missile storage site, Pathankot airfield, and Udhampur Air Force Station. India, in turn, struck Pakistani air bases including Nur Khan, Mureed, and Shorkot.
Nuclear Concerns Rise
Pakistan convened a meeting of its National Command Authority—the body overseeing its nuclear arsenal—signaling growing alarm. Analysts warned of a “soft nuclear signal” as tensions climb the escalation ladder.
International Calls for Restraint
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Pakistan’s Army Chief, urging both sides to de-escalate. The G7 and UK officials echoed the call for restraint and dialogue.
Casualties Mount, Conflict Spreads
At least 48 people have died since the conflict reignited on Wednesday, as fighting spreads across Kashmir and border states. Shelling, drone strikes, and missile launches have impacted cities on both sides, including Lahore and Peshawar in Pakistan.
