Joe Gibbs Racing has announced significant changes to its crew chief lineup ahead of the 2025 NASCAR season. Chris Gabehart, who served as Denny Hamlin's crew chief for six successful seasons, will transition to a new role as JGR's competition director. Chris Gayle, currently crew chief for the No. 54 team, will take over as the crew chief for Hamlin's No. 11 car. The new crew chief for the No. 54 team is expected to be named soon.
"We have a lot of pride in the depth of talent we have throughout our organization," said team owner Joe Gibbs. "Chris Gabehart will now be an asset across all four of our teams as competition director, and Chris Gayle will bring his own perspective to the 11 team while also maintaining the consistency they've built with Denny over the years."
Gayle, a seasoned crew chief, brings extensive experience to Hamlin's team. He previously led JGR's Xfinity Series operations to 20 wins from 2013 to 2016, worked as crew chief at Furniture Row Racing in 2017, and later guided Erik Jones to two Cup Series wins.
With these moves, Joe Gibbs Racing aims to strengthen its operations and maintain competitive momentum for the upcoming season.
