LiAngelo Ball recently opened up about his basketball aspirations during an appearance on the Unapologetically Angel podcast with Angel Reese. The 26-year-old revealed his desire to join a G League team while also acknowledging offers from overseas teams.
When asked by Reese if he’d consider playing internationally again, Ball said, “I’ve been thinking about it, for real. I want to get a call from the G League, just so I can open them doors up.”
Their discussion was briefly interrupted by Ball’s older brother, Lonzo, who firmly stated that LiAngelo wouldn’t be heading overseas. Reese then floated the idea of all three Ball brothers—LiAngelo, Lonzo, and LaMelo—playing together on the same team, calling it “legendary.” LiAngelo responded, “That’s why I’m trying to go to the G League and open doors.”
LiAngelo Ball’s basketball journey has been anything but conventional. He played alongside his younger brother, LaMelo, for Prienai in Lithuania’s top basketball league during the 2017–18 season. In recent years, he had brief stints in the G League, appearing in 19 games with the Greensboro Swarm, the Charlotte Hornets' affiliate, over two seasons. Earlier in 2024, he joined Mexican professional team Astros de Jalisco, but a left ankle injury cut his campaign short after just two games.
The idea of the Ball brothers sharing a court has captivated fans for years. While siblings like the Holidays (Jrue, Aaron, and Justin) and Antetokounmpos (Giannis, Thanasis, and Kostas) have played in the NBA simultaneously, no trio of brothers has ever suited up for the same team at the same time.
For that dream to become a reality, Lonzo, currently a Chicago Bulls guard, would need to sign with the Hornets in free agency, where LaMelo is thriving on a long-term deal. Meanwhile, LiAngelo would have to secure a G League roster spot and work his way up to the NBA.
While the road to the league has been difficult for LiAngelo, he remains optimistic. He may yet decide to pursue another overseas stint to prove himself before revisiting his G League ambitions. Regardless of the challenges, his determination to achieve his dream of playing alongside his brothers remains steadfast.
