Mets Eye Luis Robert Jr. in Proposed Blockbuster Trade with White Sox

The New York Mets are reportedly exploring a trade for Chicago White Sox star center fielder Luis Robert Jr. This proposed deal would involve sending Brett Baty, Ryan Clifford, Kevin Parada, and Alex Ramirez to Chicago. Robert, a 2023 All-Star, could bring elite five-tool talent to New York, strengthening their outfield for a potential 2025 World Series run.

The New York Mets could be aggressive this winter after falling short of a World Series berth in 2024. The outfield could be a focus for the team. Josue de Jesus of FanSided proposed this trade that would bring Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Jr. to New York:

Mets receive Center fielder Luis Robert Jr.

White Sox receive: Third baseman Brett Batty, outfielder/first baseman Ryan Clifford, catcher Kevin Parada, and outfielder Alex Ramirez

"When healthy, only a handful of position players in MLB offer the five tools that Luis Roberto does. Talented Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Roberto is coming off a career-defining season in a subpar offensive season. Worst wRC+," De Jesus wrote. However, in his final healthy season, Roberts hit 48 homers, 80 RBIs, 90 runs, 20 stolen bases, a .264 batting average, and a .542 slugging percentage in 145 games, ranking first in MLB.

While Roberts struggled in 2024, playing on a team that didn't want to win could have been significant. He's the 2023 All-Star winner. Before his debut, he signed a six-year-old $50 million deal with the White Sox.

Baty and Clords highlight the return of the White Sox. Clifford is the Mets\' No. 4 overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline. Parada and Ramírez would round out the deal, giving the White Sox two players with the potential to contribute down the road. "To make the deal, the Mets had to give up two mid-level prospects, Kevin Parada and Alex Ramirez. Parada struggled in AAA because his arm was below average. , there were doubts about his ability to continue playing catcher. \"Meanwhile, Alex Ramirez, the team's center fielder of the future, is at risk of falling outside the organization's top 30 due to persistent issues with strike zone recognition.\"

Roberts could bring elite center-field talent to the Mets. The team will look to release Juan Soto, but Roberts would be a cheaper backup plan.
