Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the expulsion of a British diplomat, accusing him of espionage and sabotage. According to the FSB, the diplomat had submitted false information in official documents and engaged in intelligence activities against Russia.

The unnamed diplomat was reportedly a replacement for one of six UK diplomats expelled in August under similar accusations.

Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for Russia's foreign ministry, confirmed that the British ambassador to Moscow had been summoned regarding the issue. Neither the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office nor the British embassy in Moscow provided an immediate response to the allegations.

This expulsion comes amid heightened tensions, with the Kremlin criticizing recent claims that Western nations might consider arming Ukraine with nuclear weapons. The New York Times had reported last week that some Western officials had floated the idea, though such a move could have severe global ramifications.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed the suggestion as “absolutely irresponsible” and urged Western leaders to heed President Vladimir Putin's warnings carefully.

These developments reflect growing strains in diplomatic relations between Russia and Western nations over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
