South Korea’s national security adviser Shin Won-sik revealed that Russia has provided North Korea with anti-aircraft missiles, air defense equipment, and military technology in return for dispatching troops to aid Moscow in its ongoing conflict with Ukraine.

In an interview with South Korean broadcaster SBS, Shin stated:
"It is understood that North Korea has been provided with related equipment and anti-aircraft missiles to strengthen Pyongyang's weak air defense system."

Shin further suggested that Russia supported Pyongyang's satellite program, potentially contributing to advancements after North Korea's failed attempt to launch a spy satellite earlier this year.

South Korean lawmakers, citing intelligence briefings, reported that approximately 10,900 North Korean troops have been stationed in Russia's Kursk region as part of airborne and marine units. Some of these units have already seen combat against Ukrainian forces.

The alleged arrangement underscores growing military ties between Russia and North Korea amid heightened global tensions.
