DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild Robot was the big winner at the 2025 Annie Awards, taking home nine trophies at the prestigious ceremony honoring excellence in animation. The Universal release swept nearly every category in which it was nominated, including Best Feature, Best Direction, FX, Character Animation, Character Design, Music, Production Design, Voice Acting, and Editorial.
A Dominant Performance Despite Unusual Interruptions
The Los Angeles branch of ASIFA-Hollywood hosted the event at Royce Hall, but the night took an unexpected turn when a fire alarm forced an evacuation. Despite the disruption, The Wild Robot continued its unprecedented winning streak, securing victory in every category it was nominated for, except voice acting, where one of its stars, Kit Connor, lost to Lupita Nyong’o, another cast member from the same film.
A Historic Annie Awards Night
The film’s nine wins mark one of the largest sweeps in Annie Awards history, the most since Pixar’s Coco claimed 11 trophies in 2018. While some critics have previously questioned block voting trends at the Annies, The Wild Robot’s dominance reflects its strong industry acclaim and broad creative impact.
As the animation awards season continues, The Wild Robot is now a strong contender for the Best Animated Feature at the upcoming Academy Awards.
