World heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has made his position clear: no peace deal that surrenders Ukrainian land to Russia will ever be acceptable. In a blunt and emotional interview with Piers Morgan, the Ukrainian national hero spoke out against growing international pressure for Ukraine to make territorial concessions as part of a potential peace agreement.
“Hey, President Trump – open eyes, please,” Usyk pleaded during an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, set to air later this week on YouTube. Usyk, whose home in Bucha — a town devastated by Russian forces in early 2022 — was destroyed during the initial invasion, spoke from deep personal experience about the cost of the war.
Asked directly whether Ukraine should give up any territory to Russia to end the conflict, Usyk did not mince words: “It’s bullsht. It’s bullsht.” He continued, “What Russia is doing, the whole world knows is bullsh*t. Why you take my country?” Usyk insisted that the territory and its people belong to Ukraine and must be fully restored.
Morgan pressed further, asking whether any deal involving land concessions was acceptable. Usyk’s answer was emphatic: “No, of course not. This is my territory, the territory of my country, it’s my people, of course.”
Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts to end the three-year war continue to sputter. Kremlin officials remain firm that they will not relinquish land seized since 2022, while American negotiators under President Trump are pressing both sides to make "realistic" concessions. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt acknowledged Trump’s growing “frustration” with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, saying the President’s top priority is to secure a permanent ceasefire to stop the bloodshed.
Adding a symbolic layer to the debate, Usyk’s undisputed championship belt — won after defeating Tyson Fury twice last year — was seen in the Oval Office during a tense February meeting between Trump, Zelensky, and Vice President JD Vance. Usyk, who has met with Zelensky personally, has become a symbol of Ukrainian resilience both at home and internationally.
While Trump, a noted boxing fan, has shifted more of his attention to UFC events in recent years, Usyk’s impassioned message could resonate loudly with audiences far beyond the boxing world — serving as a reminder of the human stakes behind every decision being negotiated in Washington, Kyiv, and Moscow.
