Center-left candidate Yamandu Orsi emerged victorious in Uruguay’s presidential election after securing 49.77% of the vote in a second-round run-off, defeating center-right rival Alvaro Delgado, who garnered 45.95%. Nearly 90% of voters turned out for the election, as per the Electoral Court’s preliminary data.
In his victory speech, Orsi celebrated the triumph of "liberty, equality, and fraternity" while acknowledging the need for unity:
"Let’s understand that there is another part of our country who have different feelings today. These people will also have to help build a better country. We need them too."
Delgado conceded defeat gracefully, addressing supporters in Montevideo:
"With sadness, but without guilt, we can congratulate the winner."
The election marks a return to power for the Broad Front party, which had governed Uruguay from 2005 to 2020 before the National Party's tenure.
